The NBA has announced that Minnesota Timberwolves’ Point Guard, Patrick Beverley, will face a $30,000 fine because of his unsportsmanlike behavior after Tuesday’s Timberwolves victory over the Clippers, which cemented their spot in the playoffs.
Patrick Beverley mocked his former teammates after the Timberwolves beat the clippers 109-104 in the first play-in game. Beverley said in a postgame interview that he told his former Clippers teammates, “take they ass home.”
Beverley talked trash to members of the Clippers during and after the victory. Beverley was emotional after the close win for the Timberwolves, telling postgame interviews that he “Gave my blood and sweat to this organization. Long flight to LA. Take y’all ass home. It's deeper than that for me. You guys know the story.”

“Blood, sweat, and tears, to just be written off like that,” Beverley told interviewers, emphasizing the contribution he believes he made to his former organization. “To be able to come here and play them in a play-in game and beat they ass,no other feeling. No other feeling.”
Beverley also took his passion to Instagram with a post and delete, calling his old teammates the “weak-ass Clippers” and telling them to “get the f*** out of here,” also reminding everyone that the Timberwolves “beat their motherf***ing ass.”
He spoke about how he vowed that the Timberwolves would make it to the playoffs back in September, saying “I told you we were going to the playoffs. Most of you all,y’all looked at me like I was crazy when I first said that. I f***ing told y’all.
This is Beverley’s second fine of the week coming from the NBA, bringing his total fines to $55,000. The NBA imposed a $25,000 fine on Tuesday for improper conduct toward game officials. This came after Beverley was ejected on a technical foul towards the end of the second quarter of the Timberwolves 124-120 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.
In an official press release, The NBA has described Tuesday’s incident as an “egregious use of profanity,” and “inappropriate statements.”
Beverley told reporters that the Clippers used excuses to write him off saying,”’He’s injury prone, he’s old,’” which explains why he took issue with the way things ended with his former team, and why the win was so personal for him.
The win definitely came as a surprise for many, and many feel that the Clippers simply ran out of fuel in the fourth quarter and made rookie mistakes. For example, the Clippers ended the night with 17 turnovers, each one with immediate ramifications on the game.
Karl Anthony Towns also ended the night with a disappointing performance. He finished with only 11 points and 3-of11 shooting from the field, and he was ejected from the game early in the fourth quarter with six personal fouls.
The Timberwolves amped-up intensity in KAT’s absence and the Clippers just couldn’t keep up. The Clippers will now face the New Orleans Pelicans in another play-in game Friday.
The Timberwolves will be heading to the playoffs for the first time since 2018, and, coincidentally, will be facing the Grizzlies in the first round.
